FAQS

Questions about what it’s like to work together?

Here are some of the most common questions I get from prospective clients about therapy. If you don’t see your question answered below, contact me.

  • I’m based in Eugene, Oregon, but I provide online therapy to clients throughout Oregon and Washington. Since I’m licensed in both states, I can work with anyone residing in either, no matter where you’re located.

  • Online therapy works much like in-person therapy, but we meet over a secure video platform instead of in an office. Before each session, you'll receive a private link to join our video call. All you need is a stable internet connection and a private space where you feel comfortable talking. Research shows that online therapy is just as effective as in-person therapy for most people and concerns, and it offers the added benefits of flexibility and accessibility while still providing the same depth of support and connection.

There are some situations where in-person care may be preferable. For example, if someone is experiencing a severe crisis, is at high risk of self-harm, or has significant safety concerns that require more immediate or hands-on support, an in-person setting might be better suited. If you're unsure whether online therapy is a good fit for your needs, I’m happy to talk it through with you.

  • No, I exclusively provide online therapy. This allows me to work with clients throughout Oregon and Washington while offering the flexibility and convenience of meeting from your own space. If you’re unsure whether online therapy is the right fit for you, I’m happy to answer any questions!

  • What you pay per session depends on your insurance coverage. I am an in-network provider for:

    • Aetna

    • First Choice Health

    • Moda Health

    • PacificSource (Commercial and OHP/Community Solutions)

    • Regence BlueCross BlueShield

    • Samaritan Health Plans

I also frequently bill Providence Health Plan as an out-of-network provider. If you have one of these plans, I’m happy to run a benefits check for you and let you know more specifically what you can expect to pay for each therapy session.

If you're paying out of pocket, my rates are as follows:

    • 15-minute phone consultation (to determine fit): No cost

    • Intake/initial assessment (60-90 minutes): $270

    • 55-minute session: $265

    • 45-minute session: $190

If you have questions about your coverage or how out-of-network billing works, I’m happy to help.

  • If you’re considering using your out-of-network benefits for therapy, here are some key questions to ask your insurance provider:

    1. Do I have out-of-network mental health benefits?

      • Some plans cover out-of-network providers, while others do not.

    2. Is there a deductible I need to meet before my out-of-network benefits apply?

      • If so, ask how much it is and how much you’ve already paid toward it.

    3. What percentage of the session fee will be reimbursed?

      • Insurance may reimburse a portion of your session cost, typically based on their “allowable amount” rather than my full fee.

    4. What is the “allowed amount” or “usual and customary rate” for CPT code 90837 (60-minute therapy session) and 90834 (45-minute therapy session)?

      • This helps you estimate what portion of the fee you’ll be responsible for.

    5. Do I need pre-authorization or a referral to see an out-of-network therapist?

      • Some plans require approval before covering services.

    6. How do I submit claims for reimbursement?

      • Ask if they have a specific form or process for submitting claims. I can provide the necessary documentation (a superbill) for this.

Understanding these details ahead of time can help you make informed decisions about using your benefits. If you have any questions, I’m happy to help however I can!

  • Yes! Both EMDR (Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing) and IFS (Internal Family Systems) can be done online and are usually just as effective in a virtual setting as they are in person.

For EMDR, I use video-based tools or a secure online platform that allows for bilateral stimulation through eye movements or alternating tones. I’ll guide you through every step and make sure you feel safe and supported throughout the process.

IFS is a talk-based (but also deeply experiential and often somatic) approach that works beautifully online. Because it's centered around connecting with different parts of yourself, it translates really naturally to telehealth. Many people actually find it easier to do this deep inner work from the comfort of their own home.

No matter which approach we're using, I'll make sure we tailor it to what works best for you — your pace, your preferences, and your nervous system.

  • Your first appointment is an opportunity for us to get to know each other and for me to understand what’s bringing you to therapy. We’ll talk about your concerns, their impact on you and your life, background, and goals, as well as any questions you have about the therapy process. I’ll also ask about things like your history with mental health, what’s worked (or not worked) for you in the past, and what you’re hoping to get out of our work together.

There’s no pressure to share everything all at once—we’ll move at a pace that feels comfortable for you. By the end of the session, we’ll have a better sense of what our next steps might look like.

  • The length of therapy varies depending on your unique goals, needs, and the type of work we’re doing together. Some people find that they make significant progress in a few months, while others may choose to continue for a longer period to work through deeper or more complex issues.

We’ll regularly check in about how you’re feeling and whether you’re getting the support you need. Therapy is a collaborative process, so the length of our work together will be something we discuss as we move forward. It’s always okay to adjust the frequency or even take a break when that feels right for you.
